Fans of #heavymusic got their fill tonight at #patronaathaarlem Four bands covering a wide spectrum shared the stage: #Hulder #kylesa #OranssiPazuzu and #solstafir The last two had toured together in November 2024. We were reminded how well they complement each other. What a fun, eclectic gig.
Let #deathmetal beat the Tuesday blues! The newly rebuilt #baroeg in #rotterdam hosted #sinsaenum and #possessed No neck was spared! Much of what we call Death Metal today wouldn’t be the same without Jeff and Possessed, we are always grateful to hear these tunes live. Both the band and the crowd had a great time.
Back to the Netherlands right on time for yet another fine #deathmetal concert at #MusicOn This was a mid afternoon affair with #damnation #AshenTomb and #inhumancondition on their first European tour. We couldn’t really say no to that. Good vibes, great music. Go and see them if they play near you!
2/ The festival proceeded with #sabathan and headliners #thelaws who played a selection of fan favorites from Brazilian legends #sarcofago Co-founder Gerald Incubus and early drummer Armando Leprous joined in. #vomitmessiah closed the evening. All of this was of the highest quality. What a great #blackmetal and #deathmetal event.
1/ Once in a while a gig is announced months in advance with scant details yet you know right away it will be one not to miss. That was the case for the fest put together by #blackkhaosassault at #magasin4 in #brussels featuring #FiliiNigrantiumInfernalium #cavemancult #Adorior (j’adore!) #abysmallord
2/ The last day of #southofheaven 2026 ended with #nola veterans #corrosionofconformity (seen too seldom on this side of the world) #cavaleraconspiracy (revisiting #chaosad for most people’s delight) and headliners #BlackLabelSociety (as heavy as a heavy thing). Good times. Let’s hope the 2027 edition will rock as hard.
1/ #southofheaven 2026 is over. The last day was dry and sunny, started for us with #FlotsamAndJetsam (finally! they rock) #deathtoall (always awesome) and #septicflesh (a nighttime gig in a dark venue would have been a better match for their musical style though they made the most of the situation)
3/ #thrashmetal giants #megadeth closed day two of #southofheaven 2026. They showed how a set can cover both newer material and older classics. Each song was delivered with the same incisive technique. Thinking this is very probably the last time they play in NL is tough. The upside is the high quality performance they have just gifted their fans. The alliance to slay all the giants has failed. #megadeth rules.
2/ #anthrax and #sepultura got warm receptions from the crowd at #southofheaven We thought Anthrax stood out for their high energy, positive, infectious #thrashmetal romp. They played a brand new song from their upcoming album.
1/ Back to #maastricht for the second edition of #southofheaven It wouldn’t be a Dutch open air festival without cold showers but luckily last year’s glacial winds didn’t make an appearance. We got there on Saturday afternoon right on time to enjoy #SevereTorture followed by #Hellripper #haywire #Dismember
In #budapest for a few days, went to #robot for an evening of #deathblackmetal music featuring #crypticremains #carcinoma and #abyssal We liked the venue and all three bands. Abyssal and Carcinoma continue to tour Europe (including NL later this week). Go and see them play if you can.
Big Ass Metal Fest 45 just took place at #dbsutrecht Not sure how we missed the first 44 but the most important is that we finally had the opportunity to see #deadhead on stage. The #deaththrash veterans played with #escarnium and #shinigami Some killer bands don’t play live much, or focus their time outside their native habitat. We don’t know which applies to Dead Head, just that it was worth the wait.
Four Scandinavian heavyweights descended upon #leiden In order of appearance #deathmetal brutes #vomitory #sognametal heroes #Vreid #blackmetal tyrants #abbath and #roswell conspiracy theorists #hypocrisy The great acoustics of the Stadsgehoorzaal (a venue new to us) made this a very special treat.
Three riders of steel descended upon #occii in #amsterdam tonight. #dodentocht #Eremit and #nekus joined forces to promote #deathmetal and #deathdoom We were not super familiar with their material and now will have to correct that sad state of affairs. Highly recommended.
Nothing can stop #deathmetal Not even a burning Marshall amp. That’s what we learnt tonight at #MusicOn The #denhaag venue was hosting #degraved #cadavericincubator #warpchamber and #cardiacarrest Each of them has its own spin on the genre yet it’s clear they all drank from the same hallowed, ancient wellsprings.
There’s nothing like a #deathmetal gig on a Monday evening. #gruesome started as a #death and #chuckschuldiner worship band and established itself as a force to be reckoned with. #Exhumed is a leader of the #goremetal sub-genre. Both bands kill, are great fun to see live and luckily for us dropped by the #littledevil in #tilburg for a sold out, fully packed gig. We want more!
Every time we see a gig at #mainstagedenbosch it’s a Clash of the Titans type bill with metal heavyweights. Today was no exception. #nails #exodus #carcass and #kreator shared the stage and all dropped head banging tunes one after another. We thought Carcass gave a particularly great performance.
Weird how life is. You don’t get any live #grindcore for ages then two festivals come one after another. After #grindhoven we went to #thecave for Grindsterdam featuring #blindtothebars #my_minds_mine and a second serving of Japanese grind from #kandarivas who were in Eindhoven the night prior and have now reached the end of their mini EU tour. We loved it. Who knew #taikodrums and #grindcore mix so well?
#grindcore doesn’t receive the attention it deserves. Luckily the #grindhoven festival in, well Eindhoven obviously, puts the spotlight on that musical genre across the globe. The 2026 edition gave the stage to #goreforcev #vominoir #kandarivas #whoresnation #blockheads #plf #haemorrhage and #schirencplayspungentstench All of it was top notch. Crowd surfers showed that yes bodies can fly.
Another evening with lots of gigs within easy reach. This time we were at the very foggy #p60 in Amstelveen to witness Norwegian #blackmetal royalty #gorgoroth accompanied by #patristic #tyrmfar and #lomsk This kicked serious ass.
Several metal gigs are happening this weekend in close proximity to each other. We went to #MusicOn for an evening of #deathmetal and #thrashmetal with i#stigmatized #anomic and #sabiendas Solid performances from the underground.
Day four of #athousandlostcivilizations managed to outdo the other three days, with #erbeetazhak #venefixion (best rendition of Chapel of Ghouls this side of the Atlantic) #beyondman #kringa #obliteration #the_true_possession and finally Canada’s number one cultural export, #Blasphemy In short, a great slice of the #deathmetal and #blackmetal scene.
Day three of #athousandlostcivilizations in Brussels had the pedal to the metal from start to finish. We saw #terrifiant #profanation #owlswoodsgraves #herzog #volahn and #misthyrming Lots of quality acts from the underground that we had wanted to see for some time.
Day two of #athousandlostcivilizations went from #blackmetal and #punk to #moviesoundtrack with #solfatare #tabularasa #BR%C3%85ND #NoFuture and #fabiofrizzi who took us on a trip down Zombi infested lanes and revisited the soundtracks of #luciofulci movies.

#witchclubsatan announced a last minute gig at #occii We were going to spend a quiet Saturday night but thought hey why not go and enjoy some punk/folk infused feminist #blackmetal Out of respect for the coven, we have no photos to share. We will just say this was an eye opening experience.
When #immolation #marduk and #mayhem tour together, you know you are in for a treat. The NY #deathmetal veterans opened the evening with technicality and brutality. On the #blackmetal side, Marduk was unstoppable and Mayhem gifted us tunes covering all their repertoire, with flair and a well thought out mix of big screen video and theatrics.
A few days ago, we promised more #doommetal soon. This was correct yet not accurate. We crossed over to misty Amsterdam Noord to see #earthband play at #Tolhuistuin with Nataša Grujović & Steve Moore opening. As Steve Moore so eloquently put it, bands and crowd were there for the love of sound, the interaction of tones and songs that take us places. That was true from start to finish. While doom fans usually like Earth, they are so much more than doom. Thanks to all involved for the musical trip.
Doom over #dehellingutrecht courtesy of #aufhebung #Coltaine and #faetooth The female doom trio had played at last year’s Roadburn and we were keen to see them on stage again. This was satisfying, their fairy doom filled a gap in our soul. Openers Aufhebung and Coltaine were new to us, were both really enjoyable. More #doommetal soon.
We can’t have #gorefest but fortunately we can have #gorefunest Tonight at Soundville in #Rotterdami they delivered goosebump inducing covers of Gorefest classics. We never experienced the real thing unfortunately but this tribute was awesome. The Eindhoven insanity has become Rotterdam’s
First gig of 2026 at the #p60 down in #amstelveen We got there a bit late so missed the opening act but got to enjoy #hallsofoblivion #hate #arkona and #Patriarkh who played in the Netherlands last year. It was good to see them again with bands that are somewhat rare on this side of the continent.
